Henry Greener unregistered design #011 'Marquis of Lorne' pedestal sugar bowl
|
A purple marbled glass pedestal sugar bowl; 1st lion trademark (1875-1885), but no RD lozenge.
This design commemorates the visit to Canada of Princess Louise and her husband the Marquis of Lorne in November 1878, the Marquis having been made Governor-General in July 1878. Especially made with the Canadian market in mind: it had British floral national emblems as its backgound, and an inscription giving the date of the couple's landing in Halifax, Nova Scotia - 25 November 1878. Each article is embellished with finely executed medallion likenesses of Her Royal Highness and the Marquis.
