"Diamond Point Hexad" is the motif used within the borders of the star. It is a very rare and extremely difficult to cut motif introduced in 1895 by William C Anderson when he worked for Libbey and was considered by many to have been one of, if not the top designer of the American Brilliant period. According to the WC Anderson Study Group's book, Chain of Evidence, "It is formed by six sets of parallel intersecting lines that must be exactly parallel, and exact as to distance between lines. Each six-sided figure created by this cutting also comes to a point. Fry and Parsche were the only other firms ever to cut this motif and then only very rarely."
