Stevens & Williams green jade (uranium) & alabaster tumbler, 1914-1930
|
A blown glass tumbler manufactured by Stevens & Williams, Stourbridge, between 1914 and 1930. The body is of translucent pale jade green uranium glass (which glows a fantastically bright yellow-green under UV light) with a ground flat, polished rim, and which produces a resonant ring. The very short stem blends into the circular foot of milky-white translucent ‘alabaster’ / ‘clambroth’ glass; the fire-polished foot has a depressed, smoothed pontil mark; the stem and foot do not react to UV light. No manufacturer’s marks. 12cm tall, top rim diameter 8.4cm, foot rim diameter 6.7cm; weight 167gm.
